Acting Commissioner

As of 27 November 2023, Leon Taylor is the Acting Commissioner of Corrective Services NSW.

Leon has been with the Department since 2017 initially as Executive Director of the Prison Bed Capacity Program, and from 2020 as Assistant Commissioner Corrections Industry and Capacity. In November 2022, Leon was appointed Deputy Commissioner, Community Industry and Capacity. Prior to joining CSNSW, Leon was a Senior Executive in the construction industry.  Leon has an enormous passion for maximising opportunities for inmates to gain industry relevant skills, experience and training while in custody; and in establishing innovative pathways for people to move seamlessly into employment on release.

As Deputy Commissioner Community, Industry and Capacity, Leon has provided leadership and oversight of Community Corrections in line with our goal to reduce reoffending and contribute to making the community safer through effective supervision and management of offenders in the community. A priority for Leon is identifying ways for Community Corrections to provide additional support for people under supervision to access services and employment to further contribute to our reducing reoffending effort.

Leon also oversees Corrective Services Industries and Education in delivering inmate skill development, training and employment, the Work Release Program and Pathways to Employment Program. Leon leads the contract, compliance and transition functions of privately managed correctional centres and other contracted operations; and leads the preparation and implementing of the Corrective Services Infrastructure Strategy, Strategic Population Management and in-house construction and specialist facilities functions across CSNSW.
